This male stronghold of fly-fisherman has been a welcoming group to me. The High Plains Drifters (HPD) are a chapter of the Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF), a national organization of over 10,000 anglers who are “dedicated to the betterment of the sport of fly fishing through Conservation, Restoration and Education.”
My first meeting was an orientation meeting and consisted of me and 16 other guys. I mentioned that I found it refreshing to be surrounded by all men after a career with mostly women my whole life. The monthly meetings are fun and informative and most of the guys are incredibly friendly especially when the female/male ratio is 1:50 sometimes!
I joined this great group of guys to fish on the North Platter with my husband and we all become better friends because of our time together.
