Mother Nature has been kind to this area in the last few weeks with some good thunder bumpers and rain, so the Arkansas at Salida and south had been muddy and not very fishable. The river cleared up the day of my float and we assumed that the fish would be hungry after days of unclear water. We assumed wrong. We were able to spank a dozen or so (am I getting spoiled?) but not the number that we thought we would find. In fact, my inability to cast precisely to the banks was probably half the reason I didn’t catch more – at least that’s what my guide told me!
It was one of those picture perfect days in Colorado – a slight wind, puffy cumulus clouds, a good spray from the class 3 rapids to cool us off, and good company.
Slow down, time. This is going way too quickly.
