I am sitting in a small Internet cafe in Lake City, CO. This is my third trip to Lake City this month. The first trip was because we had to flee the South Fork/Creede area due to forest fires. The second trip was to retrieve my computer that dropped out of car – yes, really! This trip was to fish the Lake Fork of the Gunnison.
I hooked up with guide Paul Killino (see my post on Paul under “Guides”) to fish on a private property up past Lake San Cristobal. If you could imagine the perfect mountain property where you have lots of elbow room, beautiful 10,000 foot mountains in the distance, a stream running through, a place where dogs could roam and huge, huge fish, this is the place to go.
Paul and his business partner added structure to the river in order to give fish the opportunity to find places to hide, feed and grow, and their plan was certainly successful as indicated by this huge male Rainbow trout with a pronounced kipe. We could hardly get it out of the net due to both its size and teeth.
Sorry to those who are sick of seeing me and my fish:-)
